Macrobiotics – a way of eating, a way of life
Macrobiotics is a life-giving practice. It’s a way of eating and a lifestyle that can help to heal chronic illness, create balance in every season, and help us to feel vibrant, grounded & settled inside.
Macrobiotic eating allows us to be in tune with the seasons and the whole of nature. Like yoga therapy, macrobiotics is based on the 5-element theory of traditional Chinese medicine.
An understanding of macrobiotics enables you to live your life in harmony with the cycles of nature. The circadian rhythm, the lunar cycle, the seasons and the different stages of life are all cycles of nature. With the right information and trust in the intuition of the body, we can find balance and harmony in each stage of life and in every moment of our life. When we’re in tune with nature, we thrive and our family thrives with us. What we eat makes a huge impact on our whole being, from how we feel, how we act, how we think, and it even influences our personality.
In summer, we need to eat light, fresh food with more raw veggies and less salt, protein and fat. In winter, it’s the opposite — we need rich, warm, hearty soups and casseroles and mineral-rich foods. In spring and autumn, it’s the natural time for the body to detox by eating lightly and moving more. This is exactly how we want to eat because that’s what’s best for our body. We know this intuitively if we’re able to listen to our body. Macrobiotics helps us to get back this skill of being in tune with nature and our body’s needs in our modern world where there’s a huge amount of choice year-round and every food is available in every season. Although choice is a good thing, it can be overwhelming and lead to unsupportive habits in our food choices. We may have grown up eating processed and out-of-season foods that made us lose touch with our body’s needs from a young age. Macrobiotics teaches us how to reconnect to our bodies again and how to listen to our intuition.
